MCFTR Podcast: When Movies and Video Games Meet

9 April 2007 by Gnoll 5 Comments

It’s time for the third installment of the Movie Criticism for the Retarded Podcast, and this time, we tackle the subject of video games and the movies. Up first, Noel, TB, and Bobby discuss movies adapted from video games, and give some ideas of ones they’d like to see. Next, the subject moves on to video games based on movies, and some new ideas for those as well. Needless to say, a few taboos get discussed along the way. Additionally, our regular features return: MCFTR Haiku Corner, Movie Marriages, and Lost in Translation.

It seems you don’t know this but there actually is a Zelda movie in the works. Luckily its not a big studio movie, it won’t be in your local theaters…it probably won’t be on DVD either.

It’s full movie being made by a small independent studio run by fans. You might find its trailer if you search hard enough on youtube. It generally looks really cheap and the digital effects which are numerous looks quite bad.

    Also Wikipedia

Lists some movies that you said aren’t being made..but should be. Like Halo.

There’s also an extensive list like Gears of War, Far Cry etc.

The translation of Resident Evil to screen was mediocre. It had a few cheap looking zombies, hell hounds, and oh! Jill Valentine. Whoop dee doo, that’s where all the parallels end.

It was a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry far cry from the original game. And yes, like you guys mentioned these movies still suck on their own two legs, but nah…. RE was not a good game to movie conversion. Wrong-o.

The best RE movie ever is the opener for one…I’m talking the Japanese version: gore, Chris lighting up a cigarette, horrible acting, HORRIBLE props…priceless. No, I don’t care they re-did everything later and re-dubbed everything for GameCube (although that was great), the appeal was the cheese. And Chris Redfield lighting up a smoke. We Americans take ourselves too seriously.
