THE CURRENT STATE OF COMIC BOOK MOVIES
by Bobby E Jones

Clear, but with a definite chance of heavy rain. Spider-Man made up for the Batman films, but there's already another one, which will be directed by Christopher Nolan (Insomnia, Memento). Not putting any money down on it though. I'll eat my own shit the day someone makes a truly great Batman Movie.

The Hulk looks like it could go either way. The new trailer is brief but the CGI didn't look too great.

I'm gonna go see Daredevil because I'm a really big fan of the comic but just watching the trailer is similar to what I think having someone stab me in the chest repeatedly would feel like.

X-Men was pretty could but X2 also looks like it could go either way. Nightcrawler looks like ass. They should have just done Wolverine movies because he was the best thing about the first movie. Everything else was just mediocre.

and now, for a bonus...

The Last Five Movies I've Seen
5 mini-reviews by Bobby E Jones

Gangs of New York

Gangs of New York = Pretty fucking awesome.
Gangs of New York without Daniel Day Lewis = Not all that awesome.

Catch Me If You Can

Spielberg is so frustrating. His movies are either really good or total pieces of crap. This is one of the really good ones. Catch Me If You Can does everything right. Tom Hank's accent is funny and it is by far the best performance that Leo has ever given.

The Ring

I saw this for the second time and while it didn't have the impact of the first viewing (partially due to an experience similar to Noels Gangs of New York review); it's still one of the best horror movies of the last few years. Lots of creepy visuals and in my opinion, better the cheesy original Japanese version.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I recently got into a wee debate with Noel concerning the many changes that were made in The Two Towers from its journey to the big screen. He argued that it didn't matter and that he didn't give a fuck about any changes made and I argued that it did matter, at least to those who were Lord of the Rings fans before the films. The more I think about it though, the more I see his point and agree with him. It is an adaptation and there are liberties that must be taken when going to page to screen. Considering how well made these movies are, it's almost ridiculous to get upset because Tom Bombidil was cut out or because a few elves show up to help kick orc ass. I do still think that once Peter Jackson saw that Fellowship was accepted by the fans and making millions of $, he should have gone back and edited out all of the dwarf jokes. Either way, everything about this movie is kick-ass and regardless of the changes made, one of the best book adaptations ever.

About a Boy

This is just an overall good film. Rent it and watch it with a loved one and some ice cream.
